Voice over script timer

How to use the voice over script timer
By using the script timer, you can get a rough guide of how long it will take a voice actor to read your script aloud.
Paste your script in the box and then choose the required pace. For example:

  • Slow pace (100 words per minute): often used to add more drama and pauses, or where complex information is being delivered, for example elearning or medical training

  • Average pace (150 words per minute): this is a comfortable pace for most voiceovers, for example corporate or explainer videos where you want a conversational, natural delivery

  • Fast pace (180 words per minute): Typically used for shorter scripts such as adverts or promos, this speed can add excitement and pace to your voiceover. However, it’s best not to ‘overwrite’ your script if you want to avoid overwhelming the audience.

Consult with a professional Voice Actor
Voice actors read more scripts than probably any other profession and, as specialists in performance, they know how to use timing and pace to convey emotions in your voiceover script. Every voiceover artist will use pauses, tone, inflections and cadence differently. Therefore, it’s always a good idea to consult a professional voice actor before committing to a very specific script duration.
